Bridging the gap launches an awareness-raising campaign on COVID-19 in Sudan
On 19 July, Bridging the Gap launched an awareness campaign in Sudan to disseminate measures to prevent and contain the COVID-19 pandemic and to raise awareness of the need to make these measures inclusive for persons with disabilities.
The campaign, produced by Sudan Story Lab under the coordination of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), comprises 6 radio programmes, 6 video clips and 11 spots aimed at highlighting harmful practices concerning the pandemic and offering solutions based on the international guidelines and the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO).
The duration of this campaign is six weeks, over which one episode will be broadcasted repeatedly every week on the most popular radio stations in the country such as Radio Al-Muhin (FM 106.60), Radio Al- Tibbiyyah (FM 99.30), Radio Capital (FM 91.60), Radio Hala (FM 96), Radio Darfur (FM 90.30) and Radio Youth & Sport (FM 90.00). Similarly, radio spots will be broadcasted daily.
Throughout the radio series, different scenarios will be discussed with internal medicine specialist, Dr Lina Ibrahim, and Mr Salah Osman Al-Shaikh Vice President of the National Federation of the Blind on how to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to the radio stories, videos with similar content are currently being prepared and will be broadcasted soon on the Sudanese TV channels Bukra & Al-Jazeera Green, so that as many people as possible will be aware in an engaging and educative way.
This campaign is part of the Bridging the Gap and AICS-Khartoum COVID-19 contingency plan and aims to contribute to the mitigation of the virus by raising awareness about the pandemic among the Sudanese people as well as the role they can play as a society in containing its spread.
