Second National Meeting of the project in Paraguay

From 4 to 6 October, the capital of Paraguay, Asunción, hosted the Second National Meeting of the project Bridging the Gap, celebrated within the framework of the 12th Meeting of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities.

The meeting was attended by the executive director of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) in Paraguay, Fernando Rey, representatives from the National Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (SENADIS) and the National Commission for the Rights of Persons with disabilities (CONADIS), and it gathered around 75 persons from different organizations of and for persons with disabilities.

During the event, Andrés Vázquez, technical assistance to the coordination of Bridging the Gap in Paraguay, presented the project activities carried out so far, as well as the main challenges and the next steps to be taken. Likewise, attendants were informed about other successful experiences on disability inclusión implemented by international development cooperation agencies, foundations and NGOs.

The meeting was also a space to discuss the application of the Inclusive Education Law, the improvement of internal and external communication of the organizations, the need for greater attention to the organisations from outside the capital, the labor insertion of persons with disabilities in public institutions, or the elaboration of the indicators for the National Action Plan for the Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in which Bridging the Gap is working, among others.

All the information, proposals and data extracted from this meeting will be used to draw up an action plan for the strengthening of organizations in the sector.
